NURSES CREED
by M.A. Haggerty, RN
Lord, let me begin today with your blessing
To provide care for those who need me.
Give me the patience to listen,
Intuition to see beyond the visible,
Knowledge to practice the art of nursing,
And the attitude to deliver care with humility.
Help me to see every patient clearly,
Unbiased and with individual respect.
Help me to face fear and anxiety
With kind words and a gentle touch.
Help me to see the joy and wonder each new day brings
And let your healing light shine through my hands.

ACHESON,
George Innes
Nov. 11, 1915 - Dec. 29, 2011
George Innes Acheson passed away peacefully on December 29, 2011 at the Extendicare Michener Hill in Red Deer at the age of 96 years. George was born in Sedgewick, Alberta on November 11, 1915. He married Jean O’Brien of Lougheed, Alberta on December 3, 1940. During the war, George served in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a pilot/flight instructor with the British Commonwealth Air Training School in Alberta, and Manitoba. Following the war, George and Jean returned to
Sedgewick with their new son Jimmy, who was born in 1943. They took over the Acheson farm and soon had a daughter Sheila, born in 1947. Sadly, little Jimmy passed away in 1949. Twins Colin and Curtis arrived in 1951 and the family moved closer to town. George built the Esso service station on Highway 13 south of Sedgewick in 1956, and ran the business until 1961. He then accepted a position with the Farm Credit Corporation, and the family moved to Bentley. George worked for the FCC in Rimbey, Lacombe, and Innisfail until he and Jean bought the Rainbow Resort in Sylvan Lake in 1972. They sold ‘The Rainbow’ in 1975, and retired in Sylvan Lake. They enjoyed many years at the lake with their dear friends and neighbours. George volunteered with Meals on Wheels and he and Jean could always be found helping Sheila and Rick at the Sylvan Flower Farm. George is survived by his sons Colin (Burdine, Rob, and Erin) and Curtis (Odette, Sylvie,FNicole, and Marc),
his grandson Patrick Boomer (Brigitte), his son-in-law Rick Davison (Sheila), along with many nieces, nephews, and a great many dear friends. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Jean in 1997, his son James (Jimmy) in 1949, his daughter Sheila in 2010, his brother Robert in 2010, and his sister
Lillian in 1992. George will always be remembered as a strong but gentle man, who was completely devoted to his family. He was the ‘favourite uncle’ to his many nieces and nephews and a good and loyal friend to many. He was hard to beat in a game of crib well into his nineties, and seldom used the eraser on his pencil when counting his score after a round of golf. We will miss his quick smile and sense of humour. At George’s request, a celebration of his life will be held in the summer when the sun is warm and the golf course is open. His ashes will be interred in the family plot in Sedgewick A special thanks to the staff in Unit 24 at the Extendicare Michener Hill in Red Deer for their compassionate care for George after he moved there 2010. And a very special thanks to George’s best friend and grandson Patrick (and Brigitte) for their devotion toGeorge over the years.

BRYANT,
Jodi Glen
Jodi Glen Bryant was born August 23, 1961 in Pincher Creek and passed away October 30, 2011 in the Red Deer Hospice.
She is survived by her husband Percy Bryant; sons Christopher and Cody; brothers Jim Bergum and Jade Bergum and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents James and Eileen Bergum and a brother Jeri Bergum.
Her greatest joy was family and cooking the holiday meals. Reading and gardening was a favorite pastime of hers. If it was a Friday or Saturday night, music and dancing was a must. The coffee table was moved out of the way and the front room turned into a dance floor. Though not much for trivia games, she always seemed to be the one picked first when a trivia game occurred. Driving through the mountains and searching out waterfalls was something she enjoyed in the late summer or early autumn. Whenever she heard an English accent, she would have to talk to that person and catch up on any news on Coronation Street. She made many friends since moving to Sylvan Lake in 1993. If you had a problem, you would just talk to Jodi and she could smooth it out. She was witty and kept the residents and staff at the Red Deer Hospice smiling and laughing. She may be gone but she will not be forgotten.
A Funeral Service for the late Jodi Bryant will be held at the Memorial Presbyterian Church, Sylvan Lake, Alberta on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. with Reverend Jin Woo Kim Officiating. Interment in the Sylvan Lake Cemetery.

Although he is no longer part of the family, Jim Litke (Julie Ophus) of Spruce Grove, has been like a son to Sam.
Sam was not cut out for the life of a farmer, and although he farmed while growing up, he didn’t want to make it his career. With his young family, Sam got into the gravel truck business and the family lived in work camps while building roads through the Rockies. After a few years, Sam decided that he was spending too much on fuel and tires so he started a backhoe business digging water and sewer lines and basements. He contracted to work for AGT for several years until his retirement.
Fishing, camping, hunting, riverboating, and quading with the trikes and argo were some of his favorite things to do. He loved the west country, and even after he lost his sight, he could still find his way around the bush. When Sam wanted to learn how to fly, he did and purchased a Cessna in partnership with his childhood friend, Joey Untinen. He even built a runway for take offs and landings in the field by the house on the farm.
Celebration Of Sam’s life will be held at the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Sylvan Lake on Thursday October 6th, 2011 at 2:00 P.M.
As an expression of sympathy memorial donations may be made in Sam’s name to the Seva Canada Society #100-2000 West 12 Ave Vancouver, B.C. V6J 2G2 (to eliminate preventable blindness and restore sight) or to the Canadian Diabetes Association #6 5015-48 Street Red Deer, Alberta T4N 1S9.

Coderre,
Gaston (Gus) Joseph Louis
Gaston (Gus) Joseph Louis Coderre passed away peacefully with dignity and grace on Sunday, August 14, 2011 at the age of 81 yrs. He was surrounded by his loving wife and family as he departed on his journey to be with his Savior the Lord in Heaven where he will be waiting to meet all of us again one day.
He was born in Dollard, Saskatchewan on October 10, 1929. He married Mary Malone in 1951. This union produced 3 children who always thought of their Dad as the best in the world. Gus had a long and rewarding career in the oilfield, working all over western Canada.
Gus lived gratefully sober for over 47 years, during which time he helped countless fellows find their way to clean and sober living as he had. He is known by many throughout western Canada and even into the U.S. as a “Say it like it is, the truth may hurt, but I’ll help you through it” kind of man.
He married the love of his life Vivian and they shared 26 wonderful, love filled years together before his passing.
Gus was very proud of his acreage and yard, where he enjoyed God’s beauty surrounding him. He spent hours doing yard work, and tinkering in his woodshop. He was always so eager to share with anyone (especially grand and great grandchildren) anything he could about his beloved squirrels and birds which he cared for and fed through the years. His other interests included ice fishing on the lake in the winter, and he rarely missed his morning coffees in Sylvan Lake with the guys.
Gus is sadly missed by his loving wife Vivian Coderre, sister Jeanette Munn, his grateful children Enice (Greg) Pyne, Kay (Ian) Staples, Reg (Bernadette) Coderre, and his proud grandchildren Jeff (Jordan and Wynter) Yanch, Erin (Duffy) Bolton, Evan Nelson (Desirae), Elyse Nelson (Aaron), Ellis Nelson, Aftin Coderre (Jordan), Kent Coderre, Landen Coderre (Tara) and great grandchildren Anna and Quinn Bolton, and Mercedes Coderre. Jessica and Ashley Gunn will always remember their fun-loving Uncle Gus. He has numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and their families and special friends who will forever hold him in their heart.
Gus was predeceased by his parents Fred and Nellie Coderre and two sisters, Connie Flaws and Lucille Deringer and his son, Frederick Coderre who died in his first week of life.
Mass of Christian Burial for the late Gus will be held at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church at 5033 47A Ave, Sylvan Lake, AB on Thursday, August 18, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. with Father Gabriel Udeh officiating. A family internment will be held in Dollard Saskatchewan where he will be laid to rest near his parents and his son on Saturday August 20, 2011 at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ellis Bird Farm at Box 5090 Lacombe, AB T4L 1W7 in honor of Gus’ avid love of birds, and nature.
A special thank you to the ICU staff at Red Deer Regional Hospital, and to staff and doctors at Sylvan Family Health Care Center; Gus and the family appreciated very much the compassion and excellent level of care he was shown.

BAXTER,
Sheldon “Brian”
May 1, 1942 – July 21, 2011
Miss Me But Let Me Go
When I come to the end of the road,
and the sun has set for me
I want no rites in a gloom-filled room,
why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little but not too long
and not with your head bowed low.
Remember the love that we once shared
miss me but let me go.
For this is a journey that we all must take
and each must go alone
It’s all a part of the Master’s plan
a step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick at heart,
Go to the friends we know,
And bury your sorrow in doing good deeds,
Miss me, but let me go.

SOLBERG,
Ida Waldo
It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother Ida Waldo Solberg of Sylvan Lake. Ida passed away on April 20, 2011 at the age of 92 years.
Ida was born in Winsford, Cheshire, England, on August 13, 1918. In 1929, she immigrated to Canada with her parents and settled in the Condor area. When Ida was 16, she eloped with Lloyd (Orly) Waldo and together they raised 10 children. Lloyd passed away in 1971, leaving her with two children left at home to raise on her own. She worked for many years in the service industry, starting at the very first A & W in Red Deer over 50 years ago. She also worked at the Redwood Grill, Red Deer Inn, and Truck Town. In 1978 Ida met the second love of her life and married Harry Solberg, moving to Bentley, Alberta. She gladly took on the responsibilities of another large family and treated them all as her own. After losing Harry, she moved to Sylvan Lake and lived in her own condo until moving into the Sylvan Lake Seniors Lodge, which has been her home for the last several years. Ida had an amazing memory and a fondness for people, she never went anywhere that she did not make a friend. Her kindness and warmth made her truly special. She enjoyed sewing quilts for the needy with her church group and knitting baby blankets, socks, slippers and mittens for anyone who needed them.
Ida was predeceased by her first husband Lloyd and her second husband Harry, as well as two daughters, Margaret and Marlene. She also suffered the loss of 7 grandsons: David Waldo, Timmy Davis, Danny Waldo, Jason Deck, Frank Holtz, Jim Gillis and Michael Gillis.
Ida is survived by her brother Ed (Barb) Graham of Ottawa, her children Bob (Doris) of Red Deer, Ken (Shirley) Waldo of Red Deer, Sharon (Jim) Davis of Barrhead, Barry (Sharon) Waldo of Rimbey, Bill (Cheryl) Waldo of Red Deer, Calvin (Adele) Waldo of Red Deer, Raymond (Joanne) Waldo of Sylvan Lake, and Clayton Waldo of Sylvan Lake. Her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren are too numerous to mention, although each one of them held a special place in her heart, and she would almost always remember them on their birthdays with a phone call.
A celebration of Ida’s life was held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Sylvan Lake, Alberta on Wednesday, April 27.
At Ida’s request, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Sylvan Lake Lodge at 4620 – 40 Ave, Sylvan lake AB T4S 1N2 (403) 887-2555.
