Tony was born on July 29, 1930 to Elisabeth and Heinrich Diedrich in Krefeld, Germany where he grew up and became a journeyman bricklayer and worked at that trade until 1954 when he decided to move to Canada. He landed at Quebec City on June 3, 1954 and worked as a bricklayer for three years in Ontario, mostly in Levack, North Bay and Sault Ste. Marie. In 1957, he decided to "go west, young man" and came to Red Deer and worked there as a bricklayer for a local contractor at the Deer Home. Shortly after he was transferred to Hanna, AB to work on a school addition where he could not keep his eyes off a certain teacher who supervised the school children at recess time. To make the story short, they married and settled in Sylvan Lake and raised a family. On December 11, 1961, Tony was granted Canadian Citizenship.
In 1974, they built a house in the Arbutus District where they ran a small cow-calf operation but with Tony's main occupation still as a bricklayer. He lived there until his passing.
Tony was an avid skier, had a great love for music and loved to sing. There will be a Memorial Service at St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Rocky Mountain House, AB on Friday March 5, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Salvation Army. Norma will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by ALL her family and all who knew Her. Norma was a kind, giving woman, who always made time for her family and friends. She had amazing blue eyes that always lit up when she was around her family. Norma had a great sense of humor, an infectious laugh and a smile that warmed your heart. People who knew Norma were honored to call her friend.
Norma loved the spring because it meant that it was time to putter in the yard, garden, and plant flowers. In fact, if you went for a visit you always ended up doing a tour of her yard while she passionately showed you all of her garden delights. Norma had a brief but intense battle with cancer. We would like to thank all of the staff on Unit 32 and Palliative care for their warmth and kindness to Norma and to us. With respect for Norma’s wishes no service will be held.
