WCA Rams started their provincial playoff run with a big victory in Innisfail last Friday.
Starting the first of a seven game series on the road but they lit the lamp nine times on their way to a victory 9-0 victory over Innisfail Eagles. The teams meet twice this weekend with the Rams.
The Ram got another great goaltending effort from Jordan Ramstead as well as some solid defense to hold of an Eagles team that can be dangerous offensively. Ramstead stopped 28 shots on his way to his first shutout since joining the Rams in January.
The Rams got scoring from a lot of sources with newcomer Darren Zurkan and veteran Joel Barrett each scoring a goal and earning two assists. Brett Yeo led the way for the Rams scoring two goals and two assists to go with the ‘visiting team player of the game’ award. Also scoring for the Rams were Tyler Lightbrown (2), Colin Spencer (1), Luke Hannah (1) and Trevor Belder (1). Twelve different Rams recorded a point in the game which shows a balance that Rams head coach and general manager Jason Stephens likes.
“Anytime you can spread the scoring out among the roster and get all four lines contributing it’s a sign of good things and I feel it is definitely a positive for our team,” said Stephens.
The teams play a home and home series starting tonight (Friday) at 8:30 p.m. in Innisfail and continuing tomorrow (Saturday) at 8:30 p.m. in Sylvan Lake’s multiplex.
“Our focus right now is Friday night’s game in Innisfail as a one game lead in a seven game series is not a comfortable lead,” said Stephens. “We are going to put our work boots on and work hard for the next game to try and take the series one game at a time.”
