Pay parking in Sylvan Lake will begin on May 15.
When the announcement was first made via social media on April 3, there was some confusion regarding parking permit renewals.
Town staff are auto-renewing everyone’s previous registrations for 2024, said Marcia Bowler, municipal enforcement administrator.
“All residents who had applied for and received their permits will automatically be renewed this year. It is best to make sure they are valid before May 15.”
With HostSpot, residents can get free parking for up to four vehicles and businesses also can apply for four permits so that workers who live outside of Sylvan Lake are covered.
“Hotspot will just need proof of residency for the business,” Bowler said.
Residents who are registering for the first time and need assistance are welcome to call the municipal enforcement building, the NexSource Centre, or the municipal government building for assistance, she added.
“We will gladly show people how to apply for permits and/or add license plates to permits.”
With having a permit, it is still important for residents to follow signage, Bowler said.
“Even though you may have a permit that allows for free parking, there are still two-hour limited parking spots downtown.
“Such parking spots are marked by signage.”
