The Eckville Aces Senior Boys Basketball season ended after playing two games last week.

On February 8, the Aces played against top-seed Koinonia School out Red Deer. The Aces played one their best game of the season, but unfortunately came up just short losing 60-72.

“It went really good,” Coach Merle Saari said. “Koinonia is one of the best in the league. Mag’s [Coach Cody Magneson] said they were playing well but it must have been one of those nights where they were playing bad. They pulled out the W, but our guys played really well and were making all their shots.”

The team was playing really well before collapsing on February 13 in their first playoff game against Delburne, which unfortunately ended their season prematurely.

“They really were, and then they played last night and it fell a part,” he said. “We weren’t playing defence, not communicating and shots weren’t going in.”

Despite their season ending, Sarri credited the team’s growth to the veteran leadership of Isaiah Staples, Korbyn Lentz, Kaden Judson and Tyson Dyrland.

“They have been huge,” he said. “Isaiah and Tyson are the two bigs I relied on and Kaden and Korbyn have great leadership skills. It’s nice to have that. It is really helpful.”
