Sylvan Lake local has added her name to the ballot for councillor in the upcoming municipal election.

Teresa Rilling officially announced her candidacy for council in an email to the Sylvan Lake News.

Rilling calls Sylvan Lake a beautiful place and has enjoyed her past eight years as a resident.

She says she is a strong advocate for the residents of Sylvan Lake with a passion for growing this community.

“My passion for community building, networking and collaborating are part of my core values,” Rilling said.

Rilling foresees challenges as a councillor, such as keeling a balanced budget when the Town is expanding quickly.

The expansion of the residents possesses it’s own challenge, according to Rilling.

“The fast growing population of Sylvan Lake has grown to over 14,000 residents and that comes with a lot of change. This includes infrastructure, revitalizing our downtown core, implementing a wastewater system to meet our current and future needs, as well as a welcoming place for businesses and residents,” Rilling’s announcement stated.

She says it is a lot to live up to, especially in a challenging economy.

To overcome the challenges a councillor faces, Rilling says collaboration with people and the residents of Sylvan Lake is needed.

Rilling calls herself patient and persistent, using her time as part of the Sylvan Lake and Area Urgent Care Committee as an example.

The board, including Rilling’s contributions, has insured the opening of the Advanced Ambulatory Care Services will be opening next May.

“I am very proud and honoured to have played an instrumental part in bringing change in health care to Sylvan Lake and area,” Rilling said.

Rilling believes the citizens should have input in the happenings of the Town, and believes she would be a voice for the residents.

She says Council needs to understand the pressures, concerns and ideas of the citizens of Sylvan Lake to be successful.

Rilling believes she can help Sylvan Lake along its b=path by continuing to build the community as “one of the best” places to live, work, play and to raise families.

“As your voice, along with the other Council colleagues, we can develop a collective vision and bring it to action - making Sylvan Lake a great place to call home,” she said.

Rilling is looking forward to speaking to the residents of Sylvan Lake about their concerns and issues. She says she can be reached through her Facebook page, Teresa Rilling for Council, Sylvan Lake, r through email at hi@teresarilling.ca.
