Thieves ram through maintenance gates to steal ATV and trailer in Lacombe County

See a summary of recent police activity in this week's RCMP Report, provided by the Sylvan Lake RCMP.

Sylvan Lake RCMP responded to the following calls for service between July 11 and 17:

July 11

2:12 a.m. – RCMP received a call of a suspicious vehicle stunting in the vicinity of Lakeshore Drive in Sylvan Lake. Occupants were also observed throwing road signs around the area and causing a disturbance. Patrols were made however the vehicle had left the area.

3:00 a.m. – Police laid a charge against a male in relation to an altercation outside of a restaurant on Lakeshore Drive in Sylvan Lake. A 21-year-old Calgary male was questioned by police after being involved in a physical fight with other males. He was subsequently charged with possession of cocaine.

4:04 a.m. – A vehicle check by RCMP on 43rd Street at 50th Avenue in Sylvan Lake resulted in a charge being laid against a 31-year-old Edmonton male. A male was reported to be sleeping in his vehicle. A check on the male resulted in the seizure of a quantity of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. A possession of marijuana charge was laid.

8:44 a.m. – A report was made of an attempted theft of property at a residence on Lyon Crescent in Sylvan Lake. A complainant reported that a moped was located down the street from their residence following two separate attempts to steal the vehicle.

8:57 a.m. – A routine patrol by RCMP on Highway 20 in Lacombe County resulted in charges being laid against a 21-year-old Lacombe resident. A truck was observed traveling at a high rate of speed and was stopped near Rainy Creek Road. The male driver was charged with impaired driving; having a blood alcohol level over .08; and speeding.

2:05 p.m. – A 28-year-old Red Deer female was arrested by RCMP in relation to an outstanding warrant out of Rocky Mountain House. The female was located attending the Summer Sensation Concert event in Sylvan Lake. She was released to appear in court at a later date.

2:14 p.m. – RCMP laid charges after witnessing a male assault another male on Lakeshore Drive in Sylvan Lake. Police on patrol during the Summer Sensation Concert observed a male strike another male and flee the scene. The suspect was arrested a short time later after a foot chase. A 23-year-old Calgary male is charged with assault; obstructing a peace officer; and possession of cocaine.

11:56 p.m. – A foot patrol by RCMP during the Summer Sensation Concert event resulted in the arrest of two occupants of a vehicle parked on Lakeshore Drive in Sylvan Lake. A smell of drugs was noted by members coming from the vehicle and a search resulted in the seizure of a quantity of various drugs. Charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and possession of marijuana is a 24-year-old Sylvan Lake female. A 32-year-old male from Cold Lake was charged with possession of crystal meth.

July 12

2:09 a.m. – Witnesses contacted police advising of a male assaulting a female on 49th Street at 50th Avenue in Sylvan Lake. The male was observed to be yelling at the female and pushing her several times. A 36-year-old Brooks male was arrested at the scene and is charged with assault.

July 15

3:25 a.m. – An investigation is continuing into a dangerous driving incident in Sylvan Lake. A witness called 911 to report that a vehicle was stunting along Lakeshore Drive. RCMP attempted to stop the vehicle at which time the driver sped away, colliding with other vehicles. The suspect vehicle was recovered abandoned in the Jarvis Bay area.

6:44 a.m. – A Haulmark trailer was stolen from an address on Holbrook Place in Sylvan Lake. The trailer was taken from the front yard of a residence. It was located a short time later in the Innisfail area but all of its contents had been emptied.

7:06 a.m. – An ATV was stolen from outside a residence in Sylvan Lake. The Polaris side-by-side was taken from a property on Hansen Close.

4:34 p.m. – A 32-year-old Sylvan Lake male is facing charges in relation to a domestic dispute. A 27-year-old female contacted RCMP to advise that she had been assaulted and threatened by her common law spouse. An investigation resulted in the male being charged with assault with a weapon and uttering threats against a person.

July 16

12:36 a.m. – A break and enter at a residence on 48th Avenue in Sylvan Lake is being investigated by RCMP. The homeowner advised police that various items were stolen as a result of someone gaining access to the home through a window.

9:02 a.m. – A 911 call from a concerned resident resulted in multiple charges laid against a 27-year-old Lacombe resident. A complainant advised that a male was slumped over the wheel of a vehicle on Meadow Drive in Benalto. RCMP determined the vehicle to be stolen. The lone male occupant was charged with three counts of possession of property obtained by crime; possession of break in tools; and two counts of failing to comply with a court order.

11:37 a.m. – A domestic dispute at a residence on Township Road 391 in Red Deer County resulted in a charge being laid. A 911 hang up at the residence resulted in police attendance. A 74-year-old male is charged with assault against his 71-year-old spouse.

July 17

11:50 a.m. – A break and enter at an RV and boat storage facility in Lacombe County is being investigated by RCMP. The owner advised that a vehicle rammed through the maintenance gates in the storage yard and an ATV and trailer were stolen. The trailer was subsequently recovered.

6:25 p.m. – A 53-year-old Bowden male is facing impaired driving charges in relation to a vehicle stop at Hewlett Park Landing in Sylvan Lake. A complainant reported seeing an intoxicated male enter his vehicle. Police arrived on scene and charged the male with impaired driving and having a blood alcohol level over .08.
