WELCH

Henry James

June 28, 1934 - May 21, 2015

Henry passed away in Red Deer, Alberta on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at the age of 80. His firm belief in God supported him over the last couple months and ultimately gave him peace.

Henry was born in Duchess, Alberta to Janet and Richard Welch on June 28, 1934. He grew up in Bowness in a family of six children. After attending Canadian Union College, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree and later in life, he fulfilled a lifelong dream by completing a Master of Arts degree from Union College in Curriculum and Instruction.

Over the years, Henry shared his love of learning with students all across Canada. His years of teaching in Adventist education took him to Winnipeg, Paris, College Heights, Quill Lake, Niagara Falls, Oshawa and Conway, New Hampshire, at which point he retired. In addition to teaching, Henry tried his hand at real estate as well as he spent numerous years working as a plant analyst for the oil and gas industry in Central Alberta.

Henry was married to May Janzen in 1956 and they were blessed with a large family of five children. It brought him great joy to have all his children accept the Lord as their Saviour and be part of God's family. He held onto the hope of reuniting with his wife, children and former students at the tree of life one day.

He is survived by his wife, May, of 58 years, his children Dawn (Ted) of Kelowna, Derrick (Rosemarie) of Lacombe, Nathan (Shannon) of Eckville, Wanda (Roland) of Evergreen and Wendy (Edsen) of Grants Pass, OR; eleven grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; sisters Deborah (Don) of Calgary and Margaret of Calgary.

Henry was predeceased by his brothers Bob of Edmonton, Martin of Richmond, and George of Richmond.

A Memorial Service was held on Thursday, May 28, 2015 at the Sylvan Lake Seventh-day Adventist Church. To express condolences to Henry's family, please visit
