FISHER, Michael Howard

Michael beloved husband of Thelma Doreen Fisher (nee Perkinson) of Big Valley, AB, passed away on February 1, 2017 at the age of 91 years.

Michael died peacefully in Calgary, AB with family by his side after a long and happy life. Blessed with his memory are his children Michael (Judy) of Anacortes, WA, Doug (Brenda) of Saskatoon, Ron (Shula) and Barbara (John) of Vancouver, Cheryl (Eric) of Red Deer, and Carol currently residing in Calgary. Grandchildren Nathan, Noel, Raena, and Cole were very special to Michael as were great-grandchildren Asia, Saffryn, Hazel and Cassius. Michael was predeceased by his wife Thelma, who was the mother to his six children. He was also predeceased by his brother Gerald.

Michael was born in Sedalia, AB. The family moved to Sylvan Lake in 1942 where Michael met Thelma (Jo). They later married after he returned from his overseas service in the RCAF during World War II. Michael then continued his education receiving a B. Comm. from the U of A and rose to the position of Deputy Superintendent of Insurance for the province of AB. Lifelong learning was a passion for Michael which he continued throughout his life achieving F.I.I.C. and A.R.M. After retirement his education continued by becoming an avid world traveler. Michael considered his greatest accomplishment to be his children and shared his love of sailing, bridge, politics, music and gardening with them. Michael served the community in various ways: as an active member of the A.C.A., the Freemasons, the Kerby Centre and many other organizations.

His love of opera introduced him to his second wife, Polyna Savridi, the renowned Metropolitan Opera singer and U of C music Professor. Once widowed, Michael met and married Peggy Miller, since divorced.

Michael continued to organize family gatherings to keep his ever growing family close including houseboat trips, skiing trips, hunting expeditions, fishing trips and especially trips to his beloved mountains.

Michael was deeply loved by all his family and will be sorely missed.
