A Sylvan Lake hockey team is rallying around its captain in his bid to beat leukemia.

Michael Arthur, the 10-year-old captain of the Atom AA Sylvan Lake Lakers hockey team, was diagnosed with the cancer earlier this month.

He recently began his first round of chemotherapy, and is likely to stay in the Calgary Children’s Hospital for at least six months. His parents and older brother Steven will be by his side the entire time.

Members of Arthur’s hockey team are now doing everything they can to support him on his road to recovery.

Donations are being collected to help cover the many treatment-related expenses that will be incurred over the next several months.

A fundraiser is being planned, for which silent auction items are being sought.

Donations of any size are being welcomed. More information is available by contacting Sarah Brouilette at 403-896-2441, Keri Anne Weller at 403-506-0716 or Travis Brigley at 403-848-0804.

A trust account has been set up at ATB Financial, with the account number 926-00376516400.

Donations may also be made online at www.youcaring.com. Fundraising information is available on a Facebook page entitled Fight Like Mike.

Arthur’s teammates will show their support by shaving and dying their hair at the Multiplex Jan. 28 at 5:30 p.m.
