Blue skies, thick ice on Sylvan Lake and unseasonably warm temperatures were great lures for youngsters to try their luck at a fishing derby held last Saturday.
Dave Lloyd from the Sylvan Lake and District Fish and Game Association said 50 youngsters participated in the association’s annual youth fishing derby.
“It was a pretty good turnout,” he said. “We had excellent weather and the kids all had a good time.”
During the derby, held on the west side of Norglenwold, four fish were caught.
First place went to Wade Brown, who managed to snag a 12-pound pike and second place went to his 14-year-old brother Cole who caught a 3.5 lb. pike.
Eleven-year-old Adam Davis and 15-year-old Michael Davis each caught 1.5 lb. walleye.
