Community’s generosity being tallied through year

During Sylvan Lake’s Centennial we’re attempting to quantify the generosity of our community with information

During Sylvan Lake’s Centennial we’re attempting to quantify the generosity of our community with information and a running tally of donations to various groups and organizations.

We know how giving our community is and we want to emphasize that with this column. Please feel free to add to our list.

Year-to-date total - $81,217.88

While researching information for a story in our coming Discover Sylvan Lake magazine, we noticed that fundraising from two major events in February hadn’t been included in the tally yet, primarily due to staff holidays and the fact this column was missed for several weeks. So we’re including them today to bring the total up-to-date.

• Participants in the Polar Bear Dip, held in conjunction with Winterfest raised $24,346.50 for 12 organizations.

• The 24-hour speedskating marathon and other speedskating competition, which started on the Winterfest weekend and concluded the following weekend, raised over $13,200 for the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada, according to organizer Art Goelema.
