Eckville’s Communities in Bloom committee is still looking to share the beauty of the town despite the lack of formal judging this year.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the usual competition is not happening, but communities are able to put their hat in the ring for a number of contests.

The committee is entering in two contest, hosted by Fortis Alberta in partnership with Communities in Bloom Alberta, each with the chance to win $300 for a community project.

“Bloom Where You’re Planted” asks Community in Bloom committees to submit three photos alongside a 250-500 word blurb about what they are doing to contribute to and love the community they decided to live in, explained Colleen Ebden.

The second contest, the “Blooming Video Tour”, is a short video showing off your community.

Ebden says their submission will be a slide show of photos set to the song “Walking on Sunshine.”

Members of the community are invited contribute their favourite pictures of Eckville and submit them to the committee to be added to the video.

“Its like the spray park and the water tower and it’s just going to be pictures about Eckville,” explained Ebden.

Submissions must be made by Aug. 18 and can be sent to

If the committee were to be awarded any of the prize money, Ebden says she is not sure what community project they would put it towards and would consider opening it up for suggestions.

In addition to participating in the video contest Eckville’s Communities in Bloom committee asks residents to keep their yards tidy.
