Kangoo Jumps, a fun filled fitness class new to Sylvan Lake, utilizes footwear known as ‘rebound shoes’. Similar in feel to a ski boot – the rebound shoes sees participants jumping and hopping along to catchy beats in the classroom. Rebound shoes were originally developed for joggers, runners and athletes, to help reduce the impact associated with vigorous athletic activity.
Originally stemming from Switzerland, Kangoo classes have made their way to North America in recent years, finding success due to their decrease in strain on joints. Various scientific studies conducted by the Swiss Federation Institute of Technology compared conventional running shoes and Kangoo Jumps rebound shoes. The studies demonstrated how the Impact Protection System of rebound shoes not only helps increase impact time, it also reduces the impact stress by up to 80% while protecting ankles, knees, hips, lower back, and spine.

“I searched out how I could get trained to instruct and the next thing I knew a woman from Toronto was flying out to train me,” said Crowley. “We got our training a year and a half ago and have been hosting classes in throughout the area since April.”
She explained it’s been a slow building process due to the lack of individuals having heard about Kangoo in the past. She added typically class attendees express a fear of falling over when they attend their first class.
“It’s a common theme we hear – but let me tell you, it doesn’t happen,” said Crowley. “I wouldn’t instruct something that was dangerous. Then after everyone tries it they beyond love it.”
