Many Sylvan Lake residents were out and about early on May 26 to support ATB Financial in its yearly fundraiser for the children’s hospital.

As a company, ATB Financial uses the Teddy Campaign to raise money for the children’s hospitals. Each branch chooses to raise money in different ways.

In the past branches have held silent auctions, garage sales and larger benefits. This year Sylvan Lake’s branch held a pancake breakfast.

For just $5 residents were given all-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage and drink. Along with the breakfast prepared by ATB Financial staff members, raffle tickets were sold for various gift baskets. Tickets were sold for $2 each.

ATB Financial partnered with various other businesses in town to provide the breakfast and gift baskets.

Local sponsors of the breakfast included: Hockey Central, Sobeys, Shoppers Drug Mart, Lakestone Insurance Brokers, Undercurrent Brewing, Booster Juice, Good Earth, Meadowlands Golf Club and Fountain Tire.

The Sylvan Lake branch fundraises every year, but because Sylvan Lake is in between two children’s hospitals they switch each year as to who they fundraise for.

Last year Sylvan Lake ATB Financial fundraised for the Alberta Children’s Hospital in Calgary. This year they raised money for Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton.

All proceeds raised over the month of May will be going towards the revitalization of the Teens Room.

“This room offers a retreat from the clinical hospital environment and allows youth to connect with their family, friends, and other patients who are going through similar medical challenges,” said Andrew Rocha in an email.

ATB Financial has been raising money through the Teddy Campaign for about 18 years, and has raised more than $8 million for the children’s hospitals.
