Roy Mattson and Joe Brink bent to pick up garbage while Wayne Sundell and Vic Maris continued to scan along the ditch just west of Sylvan Lake Saturday morning. They were taking part in Red Deer County’s Adopt A Road program as part of the Royal Canadian Legion group which picks up a two mile stretch of roadside along Township Road 390 (formerly Highway 11A) several times a year.

Others participating Saturday were Bob Hamelin, Wayne and Reta Coubrough, Warren Pubanz, Jim Stewart and Sharon and Gord Graham.

They hauled away 154 pounds of refuse. This was the lowest amount since July 2011 when the service group began doing the cleanup, said organizer Joe Brink.
