WATCH: Sylvan students sing their hearts out

Choir students from Sylvan Lake’s public schools participated in the annual Spring Sing

Choir students from all of Sylvan Lake’s public schools gathered for the annual Spring Sing.

Each choir took to the risers on April 4 to sing loud and proud for the large assembly of friends and family.

The gym at Ecole H.J. Cody School was packed with parents who eagerly took video and photos as each school sang their three selected pieces.

The choir from H.J. Cody even got a few laughs from the crowd as they sang the Christmas tune “Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer” in honour of the persistent wintry weather.

The choirs sang a variety of popular songs including “You Raise Me Up”, “You’re Welcome” and Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah”.

The night of music raised funds for the Sylvan Lake Music Society, which helps students who cannot afford to participate in music programs sing and play in band.

The annual Spring Sing also took a moment to honour the instructors from the elementary schools, as choir at the elementary school level is a club and each instructor volunteers her time to teach the students.

“Encourage your students to continue to sing,” said H.J. Cody music teacher Kerry Heisler. “Music is important and we want to see it continue in Sylvan Lake.”
