The 2022 Canadian Walk for Veterans will return as an in-person event in 11 cities, coast to coast, on Sept. 24 and 25 to raise awareness of the plight of Canadian veterans, first responders and foreign nationals who have supported Canadian troops in conflict zones such as Somalia, Rwanda, Bosnia, Afghanistan and other peacekeeping missions. The Sylvan Lake Art Society (SLAS) is dedicated to providing a time and place for artists (aspiring or veterans) to come together to enjoy their common interests and develop and share their skills and knowledge.

Sylvan Lake’s recreation and culture department is stirring things up a bit this fall, chopping some of their staple youth cooking classes and mixing in some new skills for young chefs to learn.

Sylvan Lake will be celebrating the first Alberta Day, Sept. 3 with an afternoon of family fun at Lion’s Legacy Park.

On Saturday, Sept. 10, Veterans Voices of Canada will be hosting their annual Flags of Remembrance ceremony at Sylvan Lake’s Centennial Park, where 128 Canadian flags will be raised, representing the 128,000 Canadian military and RCMP members killed or missing in action, lost in service from the Boer War to present-day missions.

The Friends of the Sylvan Lake Library made their final donation on Friday, after a decade of making a difference.
