Expect winter travel conditions from Wednesday to Friday across Central Alberta.

Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a special weather statement for the region in preparation for heavy wet snow forecast to begin Wednesday night over parts of west-central Alberta.

On Thursday morning, snow will intensify across Central Alberta, including the Edmonton area.

Rain mixed with freezing rain is possible before transitioning to snow Thursday afternoon south of Edmonton, across central-southern Alberta including Red Deer and areas east.

Snowfall amounts of five to 20 cm of snow is forecast by Friday morning across Central Alberta, with higher accumulations of 25 cm possible near the Rocky Mountains and over west-central Alberta near Grande Prairie.

Environment Canada says given the warm temperatures at the start of the week, and uncertainty in how fast the snow will fall, confidence in total snowfall accumulations is moderate.

Central Alberta should continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ABstorm@ec.gc.ca, call 1-800-239-0484, or post reports on X using #ABStorm.
