The Bashaw RCMP is currently recommending against travel.

Shortly before 6 p.m. on Jan. 11, the detachment issued a release stating that travel is not advised through the region due to poor road conditions.

"Travel isn't suggested in these conditions," stated Cst. Marlow, an officer with the Bashaw detachment.

The entire region has been hit with a wintry blast all day, and Marlow noted that the highways in the region, including 53 across to 56, Highway 56, and Highway 21 south of Bashaw are all snow-covered.

Anyone hitting the roads is recommended to give themselves extra time, let others know where they are going and an expected time of arrival, and ensure they have adequate safety equipment in their vehicle.

Marlow recommends refraining from travel until conditions improve, and if travel is necessary call 911 in emergencies.
