The annual Sylvan Lake event Jaws at the Lake is returning on August 10.
This year the featured movie at the event will be 'Deep Blue Sea' which stars Thomas Jane, Samuel L. Jackson, and Saffron Burrows.
When it comes to movie selection, it does take some time, culture and tourism supervisor Channelle Brooker said.
"Each year, we aim to select a movie that adds excitement and a bit of thrill to the event. "Deep Blue Sea" was a perfect choice to keep the tradition alive."
The movie takes place on an island research facility where Dr. Susan McAlester (Burrows) is working on harvesting the brain tissue of DNA-altered sharks to possibly create a cure for Alzheimer's.
Investigating the experiments, an executive (Jackson) is sent to the research centre by the facility backers.
While there, something goes wrong and a shark goes rogue attacking the researchers.
With the number of sharks outnumbering the number of people McAlester and the rest of the research team need to find a way to stop them from escaping the facility and entering the ocean.
"While 'Deep Blue Sea' is a thrilling film, we encourage parents to check its suitability for their younger children. The event is best suited for those 14 and up due to chilly water temperatures after dusk," Brooker said.
Over the years the event has been done it has become a beloved tradition.
"The event brings the community together for a night of fun, excitement, and shared experiences. It's about building memories and enjoying summer evenings by the lake," Brooker said.
Along with the movie starting at 7 p.m., there will be classic lawn games and a BBQ hosted by the Central Alberta Pride Society for people to go to.
"It’s always a good idea to arrive early to secure a great spot and enjoy the pre-movie activities. Also, don’t forget your bug spray and a warm layer for when the sun goes down," Brooker said.
It is also important not to forget about safety, she added.
"Please note that lifeguards won’t be onsite, so caution is advised. Also, bring your blankets or floaties for a comfortable and immersive movie experience under the stars."
The movie is set to begin on August 10 at approximately 9:30 p.m.
