Brutal Storm ravages Sylvan Lake and Central Alberta

Vicious winds felled trees, and powerlines and caused propery damage all around town.

Summer’s arrival was violent, with a wind storm sweeping through Central Alberta on the evening of June 20. In Sylvan Lake, power outages, felled trees and damaged property were the results found in the aftermath of a storm that had winds gusting upwards of 110 km an hour at its most intense.

The communities hit hardest by the storm included Red Deer, Sylvan Lake, Rimbey, Rocky Mountain House, Blackfalds and Innisfail.

Fortis Alberta dispatched numerous line technicians who worked overnight, and are still working, to restore power to residents of Sylvan Lake.

The Town of Sylvan Lake has been busy cleaning up the aftermath of the storm, removing the surfeit of debris and the remnants of the many trees ravaged by Tuesday night’s winds.
