Ecole H.J. Cody High School is holding a food drive in conjunction with the H.J. Cody Gives Back event on May 8.

H.J. Cody Gives Back is an annual event where each grade at the high school gives back in some way to enhance the lives of people in Sylvan Lake.

Students in Grade 11 chose to hold a food drive last year, and have decided to circle back to that initiative in hopes of repeating the success from last year, teacher Jeremy Braitenback said.

"We are hoping to reach most of the homes within walking distance of H.J. Cody."

To promote the event, flyers will be delivered inside bags that will be left on the door handles of houses near the school.

"If you receive the bag and flyer on your door handle, we hope that you can contribute by donating non-perishable food in the bag or in a box and leaving it on your step for our pick-up on May 8 between 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.," Braitenback said.

"Our goal is to help those in need by stocking the local food bank. We are also hoping to teach students a valuable lesson about making a positive relationship with our community."

Individuals who don't live by the school or didn't receive the flyer can also drop off food at H.J. Cody between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., on May 8.

Individuals can find out more about the food drive and H.J. Cody Gives Back on the school's Facebook page.
