The Ecole H.J. Cody Arts Gala will be taking place on Dec. 12 at the school's gym.

The theme for this year's event is 'Welcome to Wonderland,' and will feature student's artwork, band performances, and a preview of the school's production of Alice in Wonderland.

For the event, there are three different components, H.J. Cody teacher Jonathan Norton said.

"There will be the art show for all of the art students where people can see and potentially purchase some of the artwork, there will be a preview for the drama production, and 40 band students will be performing in the concert portion."

The H.J. Cody Arts Gala means a lot to the students who have been busy preparing since the beginning of the school year, Norton said.

"It is really important for the students to be able to have some context and an end game for all the hard work they put into our various programs during the semester. Through the Gala, they really get to have a sense of accomplishment and pride."

For students the ability to participate in arts programs is incredibly important, he added.

"The arts allow students to access and unlock creativity, and develop teamwork skills. It also allows so many students to find their niche and a sense of belonging."

For the event, there is a $10 entrance fee for people over the age of 10 which can be paid at the door or by purchasing a ticket at the school's office before the event.

"Thank you so much for the continued support of the arts in Sylvan Lake," Norton said.

The H.J. Cody Arts Gala will officially begin at 7 p.m. and go until 9 p.m.
