The fifth annual ‘Hockey for a Claus’ fundraiser will return to the NexSource Centre on Dec. 8.
The skills clinic hosted by Sylvan Lake Hockey, Lakeside Hockey Development and Complete Athlete is held annually to benefit the Sylvan Lake Christmas Bureau.
The clinics also feature guest instructors from Sylvan Lake Hockey, Red Deer Polytechnic and the Sylvan Lake Wranglers.
The event is open to children in U7-U13 programs with U7/U9’s in the arena at 10 a.m. and U11/U13’s in the arena at 11:15 a.m.
The program is also on a day where both the Red Deer Catholic schools and the Chinook’s Edge School Division schools have PD days, one of the event organizers Graham Parsons said.
“It’s a fun event, and with it being on a PD day all the kids in town will have the chance to be able to participate.”
So far registration for the event has been very high, Parsons added.
“We are taking a maximum of 80 people which is 40 per session and last week when I looked we were at around 42 registrants.”
Registration for the event is open to players from any Minor Hockey Association or Recreation Hockey Program with every child registered being entered into a draw for a free Sylvan Lake Hockey Camp Session during summer in 2024.
To register parents need to email karen@sylvanlakehockeycamp.com and include the player’s name, the Minor Hockey Association, their name, the player’s birth date, a phone number, an email address and a specification as to whether they will be donating a toy/gift or an e-transfer donation.
When bringing in a toy/gift for donation it needs to be unwrapped, have a value of at least $25 and dropped off at the toy drop off zone at the registration table.
E-transfer donations need to be a minimum of $25 and sent to billing@sylvanlakehockeycamp.com.
