The Sylvan Lake Theatre is set to host a fundraiser that will put one of its events on the provincial map.
The group is set to host the fundraiser on July 4 for the Sylvan Lake Theatre trail, which involves over 30 local playwrights, actors, storytellers, directors, designers, photographers, stage managers and members of the organizing team.
“The trail is a walking tour of theatre experiences around downtown Sylvan Lake where audiences are treated to entertaining plays and stories performed in pop-up venues,” Sylvan Lake Theatre artistic director Tanya Ryga said.
“Plays are also being written specifically for each setting that will be used.”
This year the trail will run four times daily on Sept. 9, 10, 16 and 17 which is a whole new route for 2023.
With so much going on, the event is a huge undertaking which is why the fundraiser is being done, Ryga added.
“The money raised through business sponsorship, the raffle, the silent auction, and the July 4 Gala Musical will be used to cover costs of theatre artists, marketing, costumes, and props which are used during the 16 presentations of the trail around downtown Sylvan Lake.”
During the fundraiser, an improvised musical will be performed by the Key of I a group of performers from Sylvan Lake, Red Deer, Bowden and Calgary.
“The Key of I is directed by Ash Merica and in the cast is Dan Vasquez, Isaac Rice, Emily Talma, Aaron Ranger and Matyushin who all are singers who specialize in improvised comedy. There will also be musicians Morgan McKee on piano and Rainier McKee on drums.”
There will also be many silent auction items for people to bid on that will be revealed during the event and available to bid on until Sept. 7, Ryga said.
“The items have been grouped together to be auctioned off in tempting bundles. We have date night, some self-pampering, food, and entertainment as well as original art. There is even something for pet owners.”
Only 70 tickets are available for the event, which will take place at the Sylvan Lake Golf and Country Club
“We have received tremendous interest locally for all our events. -our dinner theatres and improv nights. Audiences have been coming from Edmonton, Calgary and of course Red Deer to check us out,” Ryga said.
All past events done by the Sylvan Lake Theatre have always been 100 per cent sold out, Ryga added.
“I encourage people to purchase tickets quickly. It will be an amazing evening with a full dinner and unique live entertainment.”
Overall the hope of the Sylvan Lake Theatre is to raise $10,000 to go towards the Theatre Trail.
The doors to the event on July 4 will open at 5:45 p.m. and tickets are still available to purchase on the Sylvan Lake Theater website.
