Town staff are busy in preparations for the upcoming Light Up the Lake event on Dec. 6, Dec. 7, and Dec. 8.
The event will feature returning activities, including the holiday parade, breakfast with Santa, and fireworks, and it will feature a new activity this year, culture and tourism supervisor Channelle Brooker said.
"This year introduces Santa's Workshop, a brand-new activity where kids can get creative with holiday crafts and take home their own festive creations."
Light Up the Lake provides an opportunity to connect as a community and celebrate the holiday season in true Sylvan Lake fashion, she added.
"From the excitement of the parade to the creativity of Santa’s Workshop, this event is about making memories, enjoying traditions, and starting the season with joy."
A schedule of events is as follows:
- On Friday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. the Winter Village will be lit at the Pier
- On Saturday, Dec. 7 community members can go to the NexSource Centre to have Breakfast with Santa at 8:30 a.m., 9:55 a.m., or 11:20 a.m. (note tickets are required for this event)

During the parade members of the Sylvan Lake Rotary Club will also be collecting monetary donations for the Sylvan Lake Food Bank.
Also, Sylvan Lake Autopro will enter their cube van in this year's parade to raise cash and collect food donations for the Food Bank.
"There's a lot of local families that are struggling and we'd like to help," owner Clint Gaetz said.
To ensure the safety of those bringing donations the parade organizers will be placing the cube van in a specific spot in the parade.
