Local racer and Crucial Diesel owner Chris Jervis has earned the title of Super Street Champion, securing his first national event win in the Super Street Class on June 17 at the Canadian Diesel Shootout drag race competition.

For Jervis the win in Mission B.C., where his wife, kids and entire team from Crucial Diesel were there to support him was a huge accomplishment.

“After missing a large portion of last season due to waiting on parts we only got one weekend in where the truck really was dialed in. So to take home a national level win in our first race of this season shows we are picking up right where we left off.”

Drag racing is a motor vehicle event where two cars, motorcycles or trucks compete side by side to cross the finish line before their opponent.

For Jervis racing has played a huge part in his life.

“Racing really steered me into my career path as an automotive technician.”

“My stepbrother Justin first introduced me to the car scene and what it was like to cruise, hangout and tinker in garages. We first started racing when I was 16 in a V6 Mustang, needless to say we’ve advanced a bit since then,” Jervis added.

For youth in Sylvan Lake interested in starting to race keep working hard, Jervis said.

“Honestly just work hard, ask questions and be you, if you love something go out and get it if you want to do something go out and do it. Be true to yourself.”

Now, Jervis is looking forward to the next race on the docket, but also what the future holds for his family of racers.

“Our kids Gage age nine and Jace age seven and their friends Cooper age 13 and Zoe age 12 started racing last year and formed a race team called Thrash Motorsports. Watching them grow into the sport and mature so quickly as drivers, competitors and little mechanics is truly inspirational and keeps me wanting to push myself.”

The team has many upcoming events this summer including the Central Alberta Raceways event in Rimbey and the Area 53 event in Forestburg.

More information about upcoming events the team will be participating in is available on the Thrash Motorsports Facebook page.
