A long-time teacher at Ecole Steffie Woima Elementary School is in need of a kidney transplant.

Back in December, 29-year teaching veteran Tara Anderson underwent a peritoneal dialysis port surgery to have a port inserted into her abdomen.

This means a couple of things, Anderson said.

"One, that my kidney function is now dangerously low and soon I will not be able to get enough filtration from the remaining function in my kidneys in order to remove enough toxins from my body. The toxins would continue to build up, causing many complications and ultimately death."

"Two, it means that although peritoneal dialysis can work to remove more toxins from my body it also means that I will then be relying on a machine to keep me alive."

While not a permanent or preferred solution, Anderson is grateful that there is at least an option to keep her alive.

A kidney transplant is a much more ideal treatment, Anderson said.

"I am still hopeful to find someone who can be a good match for me. It is not just a case of one-and-done for a potential donor offer. A match with blood types is only the first step in ensuring that a good match is found."

The more people willing to be potential donors, the more likely a match will be found.

"I remain positive that there is a person out there who is a match for me. For now, I will do what I can. Please keep me in your thoughts," Anderson said.

Individuals interested in getting in touch with Anderson can contact her through her Facebook Page, A Transplant for Tara - Kidney Version, or by emailing transplantfortara@gmail.com
