May 11 to 17 was proclaimed as Economic Development Week in Sylvan Lake during a council meeting on April 28.

The proclamation made by Mayor Hanson was a way to show the Town of Sylvan Lake's support for the initiative, Economic Development Officer Amanda Mercer said.

"Economic Development Week is a designated time to celebrate the importance of economic development in communities across the province. It highlights the efforts made by economic developers to improve the economic well-being and quality of life in their regions through various activities aimed at attracting, creating, and retaining jobs."

Economic development is important in fostering a strong, resilient economy, Mercer added.

"It emphasizes the significance of supporting local businesses, encouraging entrepreneurship, and creating an environment that attracts new investments."
