Creator of Homeschooling From the Lake Robin Haye and her son are excited about the new homeschooling hub facility.

Homeschooling From The Lake is introducing a new home school hub.

The new home school hub will be located at the Sunnyside Christian Retreat Centre in Birchcliff.

For Homeschooling From the Lake co-creator Robin Haye, the use of a facility like the one provided by Sunnyside has been a dream.

"It was a vision that we had for the past three or four years since we started homeschooling. We had a dream of renting a small daycare space."

"Sunnyside approached us because they were looking for other ways to service the community as well as ways to use the facility during the off-season," she added.

Having a facility like this in Central Alberta will help all homeschooling families.

"It will open opportunities that aren't necessarily available anywhere else or are available now but are really far away," Haye said.

Families who attend the hub will also be required to lead an experience for one hour every month.

"What this means is that it could be something from their own career they are trained in, to learning a new skill, to us at Homeschooling From The Lake providing a subject," Haye said.

Talks with Sunnyside officially began in January and negotiations are still happening as Homeschooling From The Lake prepares to open in 12 weeks.

In order to gauge interest in the idea a town hall meeting was held on Wednesday, June 26.

"The event was really good. We had 39 families registered and about 25 families showed up," Haye said.

Registration is open on the Homeschooling From The Lake website for children aged five and older.

"The price includes full access to the facilities including the library, gym, and discovery STEM lab, and a choice of attending 16 different classes or learning experiences that are facilitated by us at Sunnyside," Haye said.

More information on the hub can be found on the website, homeschoolingfromthelake.com.
