The Town of Sylvan Lake is holding a housing summit on June 17 from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the NexSource Centre.
The engagement opportunity event is dedicated to addressing local affordable housing challenges and creating pathways to solutions.
The event was designed to bring together housing professionals, municipal leaders, developers/builders, non-profits, and community advocates, senior planner Trina Lamanes said.
"Our goal is to foster collaboration that can help move affordable housing projects forward and create real solutions for our communities. Each participant at the Summit brings valuable expertise from their role in the housing sector. The event is designed as a networking opportunity where those interested in advancing affordable housing projects can connect with the people and organizations essential to making them a reality."
Addressing affordable housing is crucial for communities of all sizes, she added.
"As housing costs continue to rise, more and more moderate- and low-income households are being priced out of the market. While the Town does not directly build or operate affordable housing, we play an important role in supporting the private and non-profit sectors."
Soon, the Town of Sylvan Lake will be launching a dedicated housing webpage, Lamanes said.
"Materials and key takeaways from the summit will be made available there. While the summit is primarily a networking event focused on building connections, we recognize the value of shared knowledge. A summary of key insights and discussions from the event will be provided to ensure the information is accessible to a broader audience."
Individuals interested in attending the summit will need to RSVP by June 10.
It is important to note that the Housing Summit is a networking event specifically designed for individuals or organizations who have a project or idea they want to advance, Lamanes said.
The Summit will not be offering information or resources for community members currently seeking housing assistance. We encourage those in need of support to contact our team at Wellness and Community Connections, where they can access the appropriate services and guidance."
