A flood caused by an equipment leak has devastated a Sylvan Lake business.

The April 13 flood at The Launch at Sylvan Lake has meant massive renovations are needed.

“The flood was devastating, 90 per cent of our retail space is down to studs,” said co-owner Serena Reid.

“Right now we are focused on trying to replace inventory that was lost or damaged in the flood and putting our summer students and staff to work, many in different roles than what they were originally hired for.”

Since the flood, members of the community, Town staff, and fellow business owners have been very supportive.

“There are a number of individuals who have helped us try to develop a plan and come up with solutions so we can open in 2024,” Reid said.

“Many people have brought food, coffee and have offered to help come clean and move supplies and inventory.”

While the indoor retail space has been impacted, the outdoor elements of the business are still operational.

A temporary sales trailer will be installed on-site to allow for retail sales, limited snacks and beverages and boat launch access while repairs are completed.

More information on The Launch and the services provided is available on the business’s website, thelaunchsylvan.ca.
