The Sylvan Lake Gulls dealt with a setback at their stadium following opening weekend.
Staff arrived to Gulls Stadium on May 29 to realize that significant damage was done to the Provincial Vodka patio’s picnic tables and new bar
The three youths in the surveillance footage who damaged the stadium got in through the main gate and mostly vandalized the patio, Sylvan Lake Gulls president and COO Aqil Samuel told Sylvan Lake News.
“Based on the videos that we saw they’re kids, they’re young people. Nothing was stolen it was just pure kids vandalizing stuff, and it is a little bit disheartening obviously but we got through it.”
On Monday maintenance staff, team members and coaches all chipped in to clean up.
“We have an amazing staff right so our maintenance staff, the players and coaches really stepped up chipping in so we got it cleaned up that morning and a little into the afternoon.”
After posting about the vandalism on Facebook the community was very supportive, Samuel said.
“The community support was unbelievable like social media, people phoning, texting and coming to the stadium wanting to help and that made us all feel pretty good.”
While all the damage wasn’t quite fixed for Tuesday night’s game against the Okotoks Dawgs on May 30 including half of the picnic tables and the new bar not being fully operational everything is expected to be fixed soon.
