Sylvan Lake community members interested in running for council can attend a webinar on April 30.
The webinar is for residents interested in running for Sylvan Lake town council, and is being hosted by the Alberta Municipalities.
In the webinar, community members will learn more about the roles and responsibilities of being on council.
"It'll share information and insight about the roles and responsibilities of local office, how it compares to federal and provincial governments, and more information that pertains to being on council," Waldo said.
During the meeting, attendees will hear from guest speakers and experienced councillors from across the province, he added.
"There will also be a question and answer session for anyone who may be considering running for a seat."
Waldo said it's important that prospective candidates know what they're getting into before making the commitment.
"Any acting or previous council member can tell you how rewarding the experience is, but there's a lot more to it than just approving budgets and making proclamations. There's an entire world of governance that folks should be aware of before they decide to run."
"These educational opportunities provide potential candidates the best opportunity to set themselves up for success, which benefits the community and the people that vote for them."
Individuals interested in the webinar can register online.
Other opportunities will also be available for those interested but unable to attend the webinar in April.
"There are other dates available to attend as well, including one in May, two in June, and another in July," Waldo said.
