Sylvan Lake Legion gives out bursaries

Eight students were given bursaries from the Sylvan Lake Legion

The Sylvan Lake Legion distributed bursaries to students to use for their education.

Recipients this year include Matthew, Elaura and Emmalee Fraser, Alexandria Calon, Amber Power, Kylee and Tyson Tisdale, and Justin St. Germain.

"The students can use the bursaries for their education or any materials they may need while attending college or university," Sylvan Lake Legion President Percy Bryant said.

The Legion tries to hand out bursaries every year but they don't always get applications, he added.

"The money for the bursaries comes out of our Poppy Fund. This is money raised through the sale of poppies and donations to the Poppy Fund."

The money for the bursaries is also kept separate from other accounts, Bryant said.

"This money is kept separate from other accounts as it is also used for veterans who are in need of assistance."

More information about the Sylvan Lake Legion is available on the Legion's Facebook page.
