Sylvan Lake business owner Ronald Contreras made an appearance on Bolivian National News.
Currently, Contreras is in Bolivia working with Air Spray Ltd, Contreras's wife, and co-owner of the White Frog Cafe Kelly McMillan said.
"The Bolivian government contacted Air Spray wondering if they could send a tanker down to help fight the forest fires."
Contreras was one of the first people they spoke with, she added.
"Ronald was one of the first ones they talked to since he speaks fluent Spanish. Since he could speak Spanish he was also one of several guys that got to go down there."
With his ability to speak the language apart from his usual work he has also been acting as a translator, McMillan said.
"He has been doing a lot of the translating between the officials and the government."
When the tanker first arrived, there was also a giant press conference with military personnel and the president of Bolivia, Luis Arce Catacora, in attendance.
"The president shook hands with everybody and Ronald explained to him some of the process of what is going to happen," McMillan said.
The meeting with the president was also covered on Bolivia's national news, she added.
Overall, McMillan said the experience has been going really well for him.
"He is doing his regular maintenance work as well as translating so it's definitely long days but it is going well."
