The Sylvan Lake Minor Football Association (SLMFA) is ready for a new season.
With spring camps officially kicking off on May 20 and full training camps beginning in mid-August, the SLMFA is ready to start its fresh chapter of leadership, momentum, and a renewed call for support.
The SLMFA program supports athletes from ages 9-18, and continues to draw attention as one of the most respected small-market football organizations in Alberta.
For Jeremy Braitenback, founding president of SLMFA and long-time head coach of the H.J. Cody Lakers, 2025 was more than just another season, as he has officially retired. Leaving behind a legacy of excellence, including multiple league championships and a 2007 provincial title.
"Jeremy helped build not just a football association, but a culture of excellence and commitment that continues to define Sylvan Lake Minor Football," said SLMFA director, former Laker assistant coach, and current coach of the U13 Bears, Mike Williams.
"His impact will be felt for generations."
Long-time head coach of the U16 Bantam Lions, Geoff Rambaut, will be stepping into the role of president. To the program, Rambaut brings experience and a personal connection, having previously played for the SLMFA in his youth.
"I'm incredibly honoured to lead this program," Rambaut said.
"Having come full circle from player to coach to now president, I can tell you this group of volunteers is second to none. I welcome anyone interested in playing, volunteering, or sponsoring to join us. It's a fantastic community."
Infrastructure investment in local football is necessary as the association currently operates without access to a municipal game field with lights and is long overdue for attention, Rambaut said.
"Despite the challenges of having virtually no municipal amenities, we've managed to build one of the most respected youth football programs in Alberta."
"It's time for our municipal officials to step up and support our players the way they support other sports in town. The new multi-purpose field at Pogadl Park is scheduled to be part of the phase 4 construction starting next year, and we need to make sure it stays a priority for the new council coming in this fall," he added.
Community members are encouraged to get involved in the SLMFA.
As well, players can now register online at SLMFA.com to be part of the U11 Tigers, U13 Bears, and U16 Lions.
