The Sylvan Lake Municipal Library has started a new fundraising committee.
The purpose of the committee is to support the library in raising funds for the library's programs, services, and facilities.
A big part of the committee will be filling the gap left behind after the Friends of the Sylvan Lake Library (FOSLL) group disbanded, head library programmer Corrie Brown said.
"FOSLL disbanded a couple of years ago and they did the bulk of our fundraising for us so we are looking for a group that is able to collectively meet that need."
One of the struggles FOSLL had was volunteer burnout, library director Haley Amendt said.
"Having me as the director the one leading the new fundraising committee will hopefully give it a bit more structure. Then when we get together as a group I can present key initiatives and the fundraising committee can talk about how the money can be raised."
For the new fundraising committee responsibilities for members will include:
- Actively participating in meetings and contributing ideas for fundraising initiatives
- Collaborating on planning and executing fundraising events, including logistics, marketing, and volunteer co-ordination
- Helping identify potential donors, sponsors, and community partners
- Assisting in promoting fundraising initiatives through social media and community outreach
The committee will meet monthly with additional; meetings scheduled as needed for specific fundraising initiatives.
People who want to get involved would just be giving time, Brown said.
"There will be the monthly meetings discussing upcoming projects, times the actual events are taking place, and there might be one-off things where people will be needed to go out into the community to set up posters."
As for the age a person needs to be to get involved as long as someone wants to get involved they can, she added.
"If you do have a youth or teen in your life wanting to volunteer we would love that."
