Sylvan Lake Municipal Library holds prehistoric event

Throughout the day on Aug. 25, nearly 60 participants came through to check out the different activity stations and the fossil display

The Sylvan Lake Municipal Library's dinosaur-themed event was a great success.

Throughout the day on Aug. 25, nearly 60 participants came through to check out the different activity stations and the fossil display.

"Everyone that shared their feedback on the event said that it was wonderful, and were impressed with how much dinosaur information their kids/grandkids knew before the event," head programmer Corrie Brown said.

There are usually a few special events that the library tries to do annually or every other year, she added.

"Dinosaurs are always a big hit in our library and community, so we were excited to bring this program back to wrap up our summer of activities."

The event was targeted towards kids aged three to eight years old but it was open to all ages.

"Some of our older participants were very excited to meet Luke Hermary and talk about his collection of fossils and pick his brain about dinosaur information," Brown said.

Throughout the event, the attendees got to hear dinosaur-themed stories, have some healthy snacks, and got to explore different craft and activity stations which included:

- Frozen dinosaurs that the attendees had to thaw and 'save'

- Dinosaur track painting

- Dinosaurs and playdough

- Dinosaur rubbings with crayons and dinosaur plates

- Dinosaur handprint craft

- Giant T-Rex Puzzle

- Fossil Display from local enthusiast Luke Hermary

"There was no set order to the activity stations, participants could explore the different activities and munch on snacks at their leisure," Brown said.
