Thanks to a grant from the Government of Alberta, the pool in the NexSource Centre will be upgraded.

The grant from the Government's Community Facility Enhancement Program worth $307,250 was presented to the the Sylvan Lake Nauticals on Sunday, Feb. 16 by Innisfail-Sylvan Lake MLA and Minister for Transportation and Economic Corridors Devin Dreeshen.

"The NexSource Centre offers swimming, skating, indoor track, and so much more for Sylvan Lake," Minister Dreeshen posted on Facebook.

"I was pleased to present a $307,250 provincial cheque for filtration upgrades to keep this facility open for families."

The Sylvan Lake Nauticals were excited to receive the grant, Nauticals President Erdman Klassen said.

"The NexSource Centre is home to the Nauticals Swim Club and these upgrades will ensure that we can continue to operate for years to come. We're thankful to the Government of Alberta and Minister Dreeshen for awarding us this grant and look forward to the upgrades to the NexSource Centre."

The grant will help to cover 50 per cent of the $614,500 project at the NexSource Centre.

Work being done for the project includes:

- replacing the fiberglass filter tanks of the swimming pool and hot tub

- mechanical room door modifications

- removal and disposal of the existing filter tanks

- new filter tanks, flow meters, pumps, strainers, plumbing and installation

"While users may not see flashy, 'on the surface' upgrades, this grant will allow us to move forward with a major project that is needed to keep the pool fully operational and provide some much-needed improvements," director of recreation, and culture and tourism Monique Callicott said.

"Our partnership with the Nauticals and the hard work of so many people helped to bring these grant dollars to Sylvan Lake."

Work on the project is expected to begin in late summer or early fall.
