Sylvan Lake RCMP are currently asking for assistance in identifying a suspect involved in a vehicle theft.

On Tuesday, Oct. 31 around 4:06 p.m., Sylvan Lake RCMP received a report about a stolen vehicle in the Reynolds Road area. At the time the vehicle was stolen children were inside of it. Shortly after driving away, the suspect abandoned the vehicle in an alleyway and fled on foot. Officers who showed up to the scene conducted a police dog services track, but had no luck in finding the suspect.

The children who were inside the vehicle at the time of the theft are safe and unharmed. The suspect who stole the vehicle is approximately 5'10", has a medium build, and was wearing a heavy dark-coloured jacket with a hood, a brown flat-brim baseball hat, blue jeans, and white shoes with a black mark near the heel.

Anyone with information or surveillance footage in the Reynolds Road area between 3:45 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. can contact the Sylvan Lake RCMP at 403-887-3333. Individuals wishing to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), online at www.P3Timps.com, or by using the 'P3 Tips' app available through the Apple App or Google Play Store.

The Alberta RCMP has also launched Community Assisted Policing Through the Use of Recorded Evidence (CAPTURE) throughout the province. CAPTURE is a voluntary surveillance camera registry program that allows residents and businesses with surveillance to register the location of their cameras to assist RCMP with investigations and keep the community safe. Individuals interested in signing up for the CAPTURE program can do so by visiting the website ruralalbertacapture.ca.
