The Sylvan Lake Rotary Club's 22nd annual Canada Day, in collaboration with the Town of Sylvan Lake, is set for July 1.
Members of the Rotary Club have been working with Special Events Coordinator Denise Papineau to guarantee another fun and exciting event for all to enjoy.
For Canada Day, most festivities will be taking place at the pier from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with the March of Canadians beginning at the Municipal Government Building at 2 p.m.
During Canada Day on the pier, attendees will be able to enter the balloon arches and participate in many activities.
The Rotary Club of Sylvan Lake will be offering Canada Flags and pins, as well the Rotary Club's e-bike draw is also in full swing, so a tent will be on site on Canada Day for people to purchase a $10 ticket to have a chance to win two Raleigh e-bikes supplied by Sylvan Lake Canadian Tire, valued at $4,000, on August 12.
Caricature artist Dean will be on site offering caricature art pieces for just $10, there will be a tattoo tent featuring free temporary Canada-themed images, and Fancy Faces by Page will have three face painters offering free face painting at the Pier.
Also at the Pier, a storytelling circle will be led by local storyteller Norene Cawthorn-Reaume and the Ecole H.J. Cody High School Interact Club (Junior Rotary), led by teacher/Rotarian Alana Routhier, will offer cotton candy and balloon characters for a donation.
Then, at the Municipal Government Building prior to the March of Canadians dignitaries will bring greetings from the Town- Mayor Megan Hanson, and the MLA Devin Dreeshen. After the greetings, the flag raising will be done by the Royal Canadian Legion.
Individuals gathered for the greeting will then be invited to join the March of Canadians down to the pier at 2 p.m.
During the march, attendees will be treated to a Colour Guard by the Royal Canadian Legion, an RCMP contingent, and piper Marc Strachan. Event MC will be former mayor Sean McIntryre, and O Canada will be led by Callee Lundy.
Following the March of Canadians, a four-foot by eight-foot cake will be served at the Pier to celebrate Canada's 158th birthday by the dignitaries and members of the Town Council.
The giant cake serves over 700, and the Sylvan Lake Wranglers hockey team will be serving it.
Later in the evening, at dusk, at approximately 10:30 p.m. Canada Day festivities will be brought to a close with a fireworks show by the Town of Sylvan Lake.
The Sylvan Lake Rotary Club hopes everyone will come down to enjoy celebrating Canada's 158th birthday.
