Sylvan Lake Theatre will be doing a playwright class.

The Sylvan Lake Theatre will be doing a 'Write It' course for playwrights.

For 'Write It' people will be able to submit their one-act script-in-development to receive a reading by experienced actors.

The individual submitting the piece will also get guided feedback and responses back about their play, artistic director Tanya Ryga said.

"The Sylvan Lake Theatre will provide a facilitator to guide each playwright through the script lab process."

Script lab facilitators will include Ryga and Lori Lane.

Ryga was an instructor and stage director in the Theatre Performance and Creation program at Red Deer Polytechnic from 1988-2018 and while there she co-founded the Scripts at Work, a program that provided playwrights with training, and script support.

Lane is the creator of the Red Deer Players' "Breaking Cover Play Reading Series" which ran from 2018 to 2024.

Participants in previous/similar playwright programs have enjoyed the experience.

"I just want to do more. This means having opportunities for more theatre, storytelling, and the arts in my community," one said.

"I have two one-act plays I’m working on and would love to get them finished and then hopefully produced and put on a stage. I’m hoping that 'Write it' can help me learn about this process," another former participant added.

To participate in the program there is a fee of $30.
