The Sylvan Lake Theatre is bringing back acting class 'Act Up' which will be taught by Tom Bradshaw.
For the class, there will be two levels: level one for people with no experience and level two for people who already have some experience.
Introducing these classes fits in with the mission of the Sylvan Lake Theatre to continue to build a theatre community in Sylvan Lake, artistic director Tanya Ryga said.
"We offer courses in acting, playwriting, and storytelling every year as well as performance and/or production experiences. We are also the only theatre group in central Alberta to offer adult theatre courses. There is the occasional workshop but not consistent training and opportunities to 'test' that training on an audience."
Bradshaw, who will be the instructor, holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in acting and a postgraduate degree in voice and speech education from York University in Toronto.
Each course will have a similar introduction, Bradshaw said.
"Each class begins with a vocal warm-up and selected theatre games to strengthen and develop new acting skills."
The level one classes will start on Oct. 23 and take place every Wednesday until Nov. 27.
"Level one is the class to start if you are thinking of getting involved in community theatre," Bradshaw said.
Then the level two classes will start on March 5 and take place every Wednesday until April 9.
"In level two we go to a whole new level. Actors will develop a personalized warm-up, work on material to nail their next audition, and discuss the Alberta industry and acting opportunities in the province," he added.
For each of the levels, the sign-up cost is $225, however, if people are unsure about committing to taking the class there is the option to audit a class for $20.
Individuals aged 16 and up can take the class and spaces are limited.
Classes will be held at the Lion's Hall from 6:45 p.m. to 9 p.m.
