The Sylvan Lake Urgent Care Committee (UCC) has partnered with the local Domino's for the Raising the Dough initiative.

The UCC is excited to partner with Domino's to raise funds for the Advanced Ambulatory Care Service (AACS), UCC chair Susan Samson said.

With the fundraiser, people can get a large three-topping pizza and cheesy bread for $19.99 or two medium three-topping pizzas and cheesy bread for $27.99.

With the deals, $5 from every pizza will be going towards the UCC, Samson said.

"I mean who doesn't like pizza? The deal is really good and I can personally vouch that the pizza is good."

The promotion started Sept. 16 and runs until Oct. 16, she added.

"So, there is still quite a bit of time to get involved and people can order the pizza online, over the phone, or go in person."

The money raised from the fundraiser will go towards buying reclining chairs for the AACS, Samson said.

"The reclining chairs are used by patients who don't need to lie down while being examined. The AACS is asking for three reclining chairs and we are hoping we can get one of those chairs from the funds raised by the Domino's pizza promotion."

It is important for community members to support the AACS because healthcare is everyone's business, Samson added.

"For many people living in the community, the AACS is the only place they can go when critical things strike them that are not life-threatening."

Aside from the Raising the Dough initiative, there are other ways to donate and support the AACS, Samson said.

"People can contact the UCC about donating, go to the AACS and every donation over $20 is eligible for a tax receipt to be issued."

The Sylvan Lake UCC is also in the process of forming the Sylvan Lake Regional Health Foundation.

"We are calling it regional because our partners are the Town of Sylvan Lake, the Summer Villages on Sylvan Lake, the Town of Bentley, the County of Lacombe, and the County of Red Deer," she said.

"All of our partners have come together and agreed that their residents come to Sylvan Lake and use the services of the AACS."

Once the health foundation is running it will be the main fundraising body for the AACS and will advocate for the health needs and services in the area.

Looking for board members is the next step, Samson said.

"We are looking for a minimum of five to a maximum of nine members with legal, marketing, or communication backgrounds."

People interested in helping out the AACS by donating to the UCC or applying for a board position for the health foundation can contact Samson at susamson56@gmail.com.
