A local favourite event, the Sylvan Lake Yuletide Festival, is not making a return this year.
Spirit of Sylvan officially made the announcement about the festival not returning on their Facebook page on Aug. 20.
The decision to cancel the festival was not taken lightly, Yuletide Festival Chair Graham Parsons said.
"It takes about nine months for our group of volunteers to plan the festival, and this year we simply ran out of steam. We were unable to coordinate and fundraise the necessary amount of funds early enough to make it happen."
The community response to the event being canceled has been mixed, Parsons said.
"The response has been one of shared heartbreak mixed with understanding and warmth. Many residents have expressed their sadness over losing this beloved event that has always brought laughter, joy, and connection to our town."
Although the event will not be happening this year there are plans to regroup and come back stronger in the future, he added.
"While this year’s Yuletide Festival won't take place, the spirit of connection and community remains vibrant. We’re heartened to see so many eager to help make the festival a reality again."
Individuals interested in leading the organization of next year's festival can send their email to the Spirit of Sylvan Facebook page.
"We will coordinate a meeting later this fall to discuss the next steps. Together, we can work towards bringing back this beloved event, complete with local entertainment, delicious food, and activities for all ages — all in support of charity," Parsons said.
