The Town of Sylvan Lake has officially hired a new CAO.

Dawn Phillips has accepted the role and will be starting as the CAO on April 1, currently she is the CAO for the Town of Smoky Lake in Northern Alberta.

The Town of Sylvan Lake is excited to welcome Phillips, Mayor Megan Hanson said.

"We had an impressive number of applications for this position, with many highly qualified candidates, but council is confident that Dawn's experience and leadership will be an excellent fit for our organization and community."

"We are thrilled to welcome Dawn's steady leadership and wealth of knowledge to our team, and we look forward to the contributions she will make to our already strong organization," she added.

The search for a new CAO began after the former CAO Sean Durkin announced he was leaving the position in October 2024.

Phillips brings nearly 30 years of municipal experience, having served in leadership roles across many municipalities including Smoky Lake, Athabasca County, Taber, and Camrose.

Her expertise spans from overseeing recreation, parks, emergency management, fire, FCSS, and more.

"I am very excited about my move to Sylvan Lake. I am passionate about municipal government and community and am very much looking forward to becoming a part of the team at the Town of Sylvan Lake," Phillips said.

Before the start of the new CAO, Betty Osmond acted as interim CAO.

"Mayor Hanson and Council would like to thank former acting CAO Sean McIntyre and current Interim CAO Betty Osmond for their support and leadership during the transition," town staff said.
