Updates to the fees and charges bylaw were reviewed and given first reading by council during the meeting on Monday, June 26.
While the bylaw is usually updated twice a year in April and October some elements were missed when it was last reviewed, director of corporate services Darren Moore told Sylvan Lake News.
“Town fees and charges are always being reviewed by the departments that collect them. It is important to ensure our rates keep up with inflation, what the rates being charged by other communities are, etc.”
The updated charges that were missed involve the day/evening Rate costs for the sand courts and the hourly rental costs for the Fox Run soccer and football fields.

The new updates will see an increase in price for the year.
Hourly rentals for the soccer and football field will see an increase in price for local youth from $20.87 to $25.04, for local individuals from $20.87 to $41.74 and for non-local renters from $20.87 to $50.09.
Day/evening rate rental fees of the sand courts will see an increase in price for local youth from $63.41 to $116.13, for local individuals from $105.69 to $193.54 and for non-local renters from $126.82 to $232.26.
When looking at updating prices there are many factors that go into it, Moore said.
“Staff consider things such as the cost to supply, the good/service and what other communities are charging.”
The bylaw will be brought forward to council again for third and final reading on July 10.
