The Spirit of Sylvan committee is hoping to bring back the beloved Yuletide Festival event this year.
When last year's festival wasn't able to happen, it was greatly missed, committee chair Natasha Chappel said.
"I am relatively new to Sylvan Lake. My family and I moved here about three years ago, and even in that short time, it was apparent to me that the Yuletide Festival was a very key part of the holiday fun in Sylvan. We missed it when it wasn't on last year."
Having a background in event planning and community events, Chappel decided to join the committee when a call for new volunteers was made.
To bring the event back the committee is hoping to bring it back bigger and stronger than it has been before, Chappel said.
"We want to really build off the legacy that the previous committee members have left us. They have been involved since 2012 and have left such a fantastic outline for this event for us to build on."
Previous committee members will still be advisors to the new committee members, however, some fresh faces are needed, she added.
Starting the planning stage early is also important so that the community knows what to expect, and it gives them the chance to get involved.
"It is important for people to understand the volume of work and the commitment that goes into making events like the Yuletide Festival happen. When we miss these events it's important not only that the community steps up to support those events but that they lend a hand and help when they can," Chappel said.
"These events bring a lot of enrichment to our community, and a lot of joy but they take a lot of work so having a few dedicated volunteers join our committee to bring this event back will bring a lot of joy during the holiday season and it will carry forward the legacy of the previous committee."
To advertise the need for involvement, a post was made on the Spirit Of Sylvan Winter Village and Yuletide Festival Facebook page.
"On the post, we have had a lot of shares and people engaging with it, but it would be great if we had more people reaching out ready to commit to helping us bring the event back," Chappel said.
Volunteers are needed on the planning committee to assist with the raffle, the market, and sponsorship, Chappel said.
"We are looking at the addition of three committee members to bring the event back, but certainly, we want all interested parties to reach out so we can match skill sets with event needs."
"People who volunteer will help us bring a really positive event to Sylvan, and Yuletide Festival works so closely in conjunction with other holiday events in the community, including the Santa Clause Breakfast, Light Up the Lake, and the Santa Clause Parade," she added.
Individuals interested are welcome to join the committee during the next meeting on April 15 at the NexSource Centre at 7 p.m.
If unable to get to the meeting, individuals interested in helping out can also message the committee on the Facebook page or by emailing yuletidefestivalandmarket@gmail.com.
